OKU Offense Ready to Make Leaps in 2019

Expectations are ramped up heading into the 2019 season for the Oklahoma Union Cougars. The Nowata County squad is coming off its first playoff appearance in more than a decade. A drop down to class served to the school’s benefit as the Cougars scrapped their way through Class A District 6. OKU switched its offensive scheme midway through its season and that made all the difference. Second year head coach Stephen Trammell talks about how the Cougars offense will grow in 2019.

OKU averaged 11 points per contest in three games before the switch, and then 20.5 points per game afterward as it finished the season 5-2. The Cougars will have five new starters on each side of the ball. At a smaller school several players have to play both ways. Coach Trammell says the Cougars used pace to manage snaps last season.

It will be just over a week before OKU hosts Nowata in an inter-county rivalry on August 30. You can listen to that game on KRIG 104.9 FM.
