Oklahoma Union took the season series against Caney Valley on Tuesday, as the Cougars have swept one of the best teams in 2A.

Oklahoma Union topped Caney Valley 7-3. The Cougars had beaten Caney Valley 6-4 on April 3. The win moves Oklahoma Union to 16-4 on the season with five games remaining. The Cougars have won 12 of their last 14 and are ranked no. 11 in 2A.

One of those two recent losses for Oklahoma Union came to Lincoln Christian, one of the best teams in 3A. Cougar head coach Lee Ott says he still feels that the team has momentum entering the final stretch of the year.

Oklahoma Union has two games against Chelsea along matchups against Inola, Foyil and Commerce left on the schedule.

The Cougars have been close to making the state tournament the past two years but haven’t quite gotten over the hump. Ott says this is the team to do it.

Ott says although Oklahoma Union doesn’t have much experience advancing deep in the playoffs, that is the goal. The Cougars have the talent to advance, they’ll have to learn how on the way
