Nowata Ironmen and Lady Ironmen basketball teams picked up wins Friday night as they hosted the Kansas Comets.  Lady Ironmen upset #8-3A Lady Comets 63-61 in overtime while the Ironmen won 76-70.

It looked like Kansas was going to run away in the girls game, but Nowata had something else in mind.  Nowata's Reva Smith made a 3-pointer at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime at 61 a piece.  The only points scored in overtime was Emily Beldon's two free throws and that was the difference.  The victory for Nowata was perhaps the biggest win for the program in quite sometime.  Kennedy Downing came off the bench and led with 18 points while Smith added 11 points.  Lady Ironmen improves to 11-10 overall.

In the boys game, it was a team effort for the Ironmen.  Kansas led for most of the first half as they took a 34-26 lead in the locker room.  Nowata would outscore the Comets 50-46 in the second half to pickup their 10th victory of the season.  Cody Smith and Zen Callahan led Nowata with 20 points a piece while Michael Velasco added 16 points.  Dalton Carter finished the evening with 11 points.  Nowata improves to 10-11 on the year.
