Nowata Splits With Chelsea

The 2016-2017 basketball season began Tuesday in Nowata as the Ironmen and Lady Ironmen took on the Chelsea Dragons.  Lady Ironmen lost 78-57 while the Ironmen won 68-49.

The Lady Dragons controlled the game from start to finish.  Nowata had too many turnovers and were out rebounded.  Chelsea led 25-10 after the first period and went on to lead at halftime 46-19. Chelsea's Sadie Jordan led with a game high 37 points while Kyanne Beene finished with 25 points. Nowata had three players score in double figures.  Kennedy Downing led with 19 points while Mamie Tiry made 3-three pointers to finish with 13 points.  Sami Steigerwald added 10 points.

In the boys game, Nowata got off to a 13-4 start early in the first period, but Chelsea went on a 10-0 run of their own to take a 14-13 lead.  The game stayed close for most of the time before Nowata pulled the game away in the fourth period, outscoring the Dragons 21-10.  Zen Callahan led Nowata with 19 points while Cody Smith finished with 13 points.  Zach Brock and Dalton Carter each finished with 10 points a piece.  Chelsea was led by Gavin Feathers 17 points.

Next up for both Ironmen and Lady Ironmen will be this Friday evening as they will host Dewey. Girls play at 6:30 while the boys play at 8 o'clock.
