The Nowata Ironmen baseball team pulled off a big comeback on Saturday afternoon to defeat Oklahoma Union 9-8. The Ironmen trailed 5-0 after four innings but came back to win 9-8 with a seventh inning bases loaded walk taken by Daygan West.

OKU put up four runs in the second inning including two runs off a Dillon Ellis double. Ellis would stretch the lead to 5-0 after a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Braylon Holland put up four consecutive zeroes for the Cougars on the mound. However, the Ironmen would come to life with seven runs in the fifth inning to take the lead. Jace Thompson, Wyatt Kuehler and West each had RBI hits in the inning.

Down 8-5 entering the sixth inning didn’t deter OKU. The Cougars tallied three times in the inning to knot the game up at 8. Caleb Drake had a two-RBI single to right field.

Patience would prevail for Nowata. The Ironmen took six total walks in the game. The final one came with West at the plate in the seventh. Kaleb Bashford came across to score the winning run. Tucker Collier would secure the win on the mound as he recorded the final three outs for the Ironmen.

Nowata went 2-2 in the Northeast Valley Conference Festival. OKU finished its own event at 3-1. The two teams will meet for a district series starting Monday.
