Several area teams will participating in scrimmages at the end of this week in preparation for the opening week of the fall football season. Coaches will use this time to measure their teams against outside competition for the first time.

A Friday evening scrimmage in Nowata will feature a trio of area teams with the Ironmen hosting Oklahoma Union and Pawhuska. All three of these teams feature coach’s that are entering their first full year with their respective schools. Of course, Bob Craig took over at Nowata after week two in 2017.

Change is expected with the other two schools but coach Craig is hoping for continuity on both sides of the ball this year.

Nowata is hoping that added consistency will lead to a victory after 0-10 campaign in 2017. Another School that went winless last year was Pawhuska.

Matt Hennesy has brought a lot of intensity and new ideas for the Huskies throughout the offseason. Hennesy says the team’s summer pride workouts are essential to his program and he’ll suit up those who attended the workouts.

At Oklahoma Union new head coach Stephen Trammell has made it a priority to build character in his football team. The Cougars were on the doorstep of the playoffs last season at 4-6. Trammell hopes that toughness will help with late-game execution that was the Achilles heel for the Cougars last season.

We’ll hear more from all of these coach’s as well as more from throughout Green Country on Saturday morning at seven as a part of our annual Coach’s Breakfast on KWON – AM 1400 and FM 93.3.
