We had one big high school basketball game over the weekend, with Nowata handling Dewey in a makeup game from earlier in December.

The Ironmen topped the Doggers 68-31 on Saturday afternoon at Ty Hewitt Court.

Nowata was down 6-0 in the opening minutes, and led by only three midway through the fourth quarter. That is when the Ironmen came alive. Nowata would outscore Dewey 50-15 over the course of the final 21 minutes of gameplay.

The defense was the impressive part for the Ironmen, who have continued to focus on getting stops. Head coach Gary Hollingshed says that side of the ball is important for his club.

Nowata was led by Mark Price, who had a game high 28 points. He had four three-pointers. Price had 21 in the first half. Kaleb Hull led Dewey in scoring and was the only Bulldogger in double-figures.

Nowata slammed the door with a 20-2 run in the first 3:52 of the fourth quarter, as both clubs put in their backups from that point on.

Dewey drops to 0-3 on the year, Nowata improves to 5-1. Nowata has regular season action this week, while Dewey is next in the Oologah Tournament this weekend.
