Nowata-Dewey Matchup on Saturday

We have our first high school basketball broadcast of 2021 across Northeast Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon, as Dewey and Nowata will matchup for a makeup of a COVID-19 postponement from earlier this year.

It will be senior day for Nowata at Ty Hewitt Court.

The No. 12 Nowata Ironmen have seen a fair share of success in the first portion of the 2020-21 basketball season. Despite their best efforts to stay healthy Nowata has lost three games of its schedule due to opponents COVID-19 cases.

Ironmen head coach Gary Hollingshead has been impressed with his team’s resolve so far.

This senior-heavy team has made some great strides in its first five games. The Ironmen defense has allowed just 37 points per game.

On the Dewey side of the contest, the Bulldoggers are hoping for some normalcy. The Doggers have endured one of the toughest first six weeks of any team around the area. Dewey normally challenges itself with a demanding schedule but this year COVID-19 related shutdowns have added an unnecessary wrench to things.

Bulldoggers head coach Lance Knight says the team has tried to stay positive. Knight has said all along that this group just wants a chance to play.

He said that was evident even after a 43-point loss to Oklahoma Union on Dec. 15.

Nowata is 4-1 and Dewey is 0-2. Senior night festivities begin at 12:30. Girls tip at 1:00 with the boy’s at 2:30.

We will have the guy’s game on KRIG 104.9 on Saturday afternoon, pregame begins just before 2:15.
