Top-tier 2A schools will battle on the hardwood Friday night as Nowata hosts Caney Valley for its homecoming game. The two teams have combined to go 25-5 so far on the season and both are on the heels second place tournament finishes.

The Trojans are 12-2 and have played once since being bested by Liberty in the finals of the Caney Valley Tournament on Saturday. CV snuck by Chelsea with a 67-62 victory on Tuesday. Trojans head coach Tug Brinker thinks last week’s tournament experience will help his team down the line.

No. 16 Nowata stands at 13-3 on the year. The Ironmen just finished second at the NEO Classic and have not played a game since. Nowata is 6-1 on its home floor this season proving that Ty Hewitt Court is one of the toughest venue’s in the area. Gary Hollingshead says the team has emphasized defense as competition has gotten tougher.

This is the first of two matchups between these teams in the next 12 days. Because of homecoming the boy’s game will be played at 6:30p.m. with the girls to follow at 8 p.m. We will have the boy’s game on KRIG 104.9 FM.
