It was No. 16 Nowata out-muscling Caney Valley on the way to a 61-50 victory on Friday night. The Ironmen led the whole way through and fought off a late comeback attempt by the Trojans down the stretch.

Nowata got off to a blazing hot start on the offensive side leading 9-2 three minutes into the game. Mark Price knocked down a handful of three-pointers in the opening minutes. The Ironmen took a 33-18 lead into halftime. Price was great on offense once again leading the Ironmen with 22 points. This assist from Price was one of his top highlights on the night.

Caney Valley showed some life in the third quarter though. The Trojans outscored Nowata 18-8 in the period. Daniel Barham took a lion’s share of the points for the Trojans in the run. Barham would finish 24 points. The Trojans got within two at 43-41 at the start of the final quarter.

Price secured the game from the foul line as Nowata wouldn’t let Caney Valley back in down the home stretch. Nowata is now 14-3 on the season with a rivalry battle with Dewey coming up on Tuesday. Caney Valley drops to 12-4 and will play at Hominy on Tuesday.
