The Nowata football team has revamped its coaching staff heading into 2019. The only holdover from the 2018 staff is Chris Messner who was promoted to head coach after serving under former head coach Bob Craig last season.

Matt Mims who previously coached at Independence Community College is a big addition to the staff. Messner has also brought in boys’ basketball coach Gary Hollingshead to help this season. Anthoney Towers, who has coached previously at Bartlesville high, will assist in coaching the football and baseball teams. Towers is also the manager of Bartlesville’s Doenges Ford Indians. Messner talks about responsibilities within the staff.

Messner has expertise when it comes to line play, an area the Ironmen have struggled with over the past two seasons. Messner was a five-year offensive lineman at the University of Oklahoma from 2002-2006.

The Ironmen will look to restore their rich football culture after going 1-19 over the past two seasons. Nowata opens the season at Oklahoma Union on August 30.
