Nowata Ironmen basketball season came to a end Friday afternoon at Cleveland as Metro Christian eliminated the Ironmen 82-57 in the Class 3A Area Tournament.  Nowata and Metro Christian played a close game for the first period.  Game was tied at 18 going into the second quarter and that's when the Patriots took over, outscoring Nowata 22-8 to take a 40-26 halftime lead.  Metro Christian took advantage of their height and Nowata's mistakes to roll over the Ironmen.  Michael Velasco led Nowata with 22 points and made four 3-pointers.  Zen Callahan finished with 12 points and Cody Smith added 10 points.  Metro Christian's Landon Streich led with a game high 39 points.

Just eight days ago, Nowata beat the Patroits 68-63 at Nowata in the regional tournament.  Since the loss, Metro Christian has won four straight.

Nowata ends the season with a 17-9 record.  What a year for the Ironmen.  Won the Nowata and NEO Tournaments, District Title, Regional Runner-Up, and second round of the Area Tournament. Overall, not bad.
