Liberty Outlasts Caney Valley In 6OT Thriller

Before the title games happened there was an instant classic in the boys third place game between Liberty and Caney Valley. It took six overtimes to decide the tournament’s bronze medalist. Liberty outlasted Caney Valley 83-78.

It was tied at 42-42 after the end of regulation. Caney Valley couldn’t get a shot up before the fourth quarter clock expired.

Liberty had an opportunity to win it in the third overtime trailing 62-61. Clue Anderson was fouled with less than a second to go and tied the game at 62 with the first foul shot. However, he missed the second shot and then game was headed for a fourth overtime.

It looked like Liberty was going to seal the game but they missed two free throws and gave Caney Valley a chance down by two. Erick McLaughlin cleaned up a miss with a putback at the buzzer to keep the game going.

Liberty made an inside shot with less than ten seconds to go in the fifth overtime to tie the game at 74.

Finally, in the sixth overtime Liberty had an 81-78 lead and Caney Valley missed a three-pointer on the other end to seal the win for Liberty in this instant classic.
