New seasons always bring new hope. That’s exactly what is happening with the Nowata softball program heading into 2019. Eighth-year head coach Homer Johnston says there is an enthusiasm around the team that hasn’t been there in recent years.

The Lady Ironmen will have a roster comprised mostly of underclassmen. Abby Taylor, an all-conference sophomore shortstop is among the top returners on the squad. Johnston says he will have multiple options to choose from on the mound for the first time. Left-hander Hanna Hewitt and righty Macie Slocter will both see time in the circle for Nowata. Overall, the Lady Ironmen could have as many as five freshmen in the lineup. Johnston says he is excited to build up the program for years to come.

Nowata went 4-19 in the 2018 season. The Lady Ironmen host Caney Valley for opening day on August 12.
