Lady Bruins Win - Bruins Lose in COP Arvest

Bartlesville High basketball opened up the ConocoPhillips Arvest Invitational with mixed results on Thursday evening, as the Lady Bruins won, but the Bruin guys lost their tournament openers at Bruin Field House.

The Bartlesville girls hung on against Southmoore, beating the Lady Sabercats 50-47 behind a bunch of foul shots.

BHS shot 45 free throws against a sometimes overly aggressive Southmoore press. With Bartlesville up by one in the waning minutes, a steal and bucket helped put the Lady Sabercats away.

Bartlesville (4-4) snapped a two-game losing skid and got back to .500 without its leading scorer in Chloe Martin. Martin will likely be sidelined the rest of the weekend after getting banged up toward the end of the BHS loss to Broken Arrow on Tuesday.

The Lady Bruins now face Carl Albert in the semifinals of the tournament at 7:00 PM on Friday. We will have the BHS girls on KWON – AM 1400 and FM 93.3. Pregame about 6:40.

On the guy’s side, Bartlesville again hung around early, but could not keep up with Hirschi High School out of Texas. The Huskies topped the Bruins 61-40.

Bartlesville was led in scoring by Adam Nakvinda, who had 17. The Bruins (1-7) will face Stillwater on Friday afternoon at 2:30 in the consolation bracket. Pregame at 2:15 on Sports Talk 1500 AM – 99.1 FM – KPGM.
