Lady Bruins Playoff Rematch

The Bartlesville girl's basketball team will be facing off against a familiar foe on Thursday night in Sapulpa for the first round of the 6A playoffs. The Lady Bruins match up against Sand Springs for the third time this season.

BHS lost the first two games against the Lady Sandites, first on Jan. 13 at Sand Springs, falling 45-41. The second game was more recent, just nine days before the playoffs, the Lady Bruins lost that one 51-48 in Bartlesville.

BHS is coming off three straight losses, most recently at Bixby, losing to the Lady Spartans by its largest margin of defeat all season, 56-30. Girl's coach Terry Rogers says it is important to leave that game behind, and focus on Thursday night like it's a new season.

Rogers says the mood at practice has been good, like it has all season long. The team is looking forward to seeing Sand Springs again. Rogers says he sees similarities between BHS and Sand Springs, and that could help Bartlesville on Thursday.

Morgan and Sydney Pennington caused Bartlesville major problems during its game against Sand Springs on Feb. 17. The sisters combined for 28 points, with Mogan hitting a three-pointer with just over 3 seconds remaining that proved to be the final margin of victory for the Sandites. Rogers talks about the match up and the sisters.

Lose, and the Lady Bruins go home. The first round of regionals is single-elimination. Rogers says his girls know what that means. He wants them to take things one game at a time, and just focus on the task at hand, hopefully not getting caught up in the fact that the season is over with a loss on Thursday.

Starter Kearstin Littau and key reserve Vivian Culver will not be playing on Thursday because of injuries. Rogers says this makes it even more important to get Hailey Tucker involved offensively.

The girl's tip off at 6:30, in a game you can hear on KWON 1400 AM, 93.3 FM. You can also listen online at BartlesvilleRadio.com or on the BartlesvilleRadio app.
