The Bartlesville girl’s tennis team starts its journey toward to the 2016 state tournament on Monday afternoon.

BHS will be in the 6A Regional at Ponca City. Bartlesville will have a shot at qualifying several tennis players for the state tournament. The Bartlesville boy’s tennis team will be in Ponca City next week as well.

Two of the strongest girls in the state will be in Ponca City. No. 1 singles star Erin Epperson for Bartlesville, and the no. 1 singles player for Jenks, Sarah Cameron, may be on a path to meet. Jenks has been in several tournaments with BHS this year, but due to scheduling conflicts the two individuals have not met.

The top four players, or doubles teams, in each bracket will qualify for state.

Bailey Covell at no. 2 singles, Kelly Gerrish and Avery Bennett at no. 1 doubles and Oliva Holder and Kaylee Garrett at no. 2 doubles should all have a shot to place. Head coach Jeff Birk talks about their chances, along with some boy's tennis players, too.

The State competition will be Friday and Saturday, May 6-7, at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
