A big time area rivalry will hold its second edition of the season as Dewey and Nowata will square off from Ty Hewitt Court on Tuesday night. The Ironmen bested the Doggers 68-59 in an early season contest back in December.

At 14-3, Nowata is a consensus top-20 team in Class 2A and has potential to host a regional for the third straight year. Junior Mark Price has taken a starring role for the Ironmen offense all season. Price tallied 23 points in the win over Dewey the first time around. Nowata head coach Gary Hollingshead thinks Price and several other talented juniors can lead this team.

Price’s adversary in red is Hayden Thornton, an equally talented scorer and athlete on the other side. In the first matchup Thornton totaled 23 points and 12 rebounds. He has been a bright spot on a 3-14 Dewey team that is in the midst of a five-game losing streak. Dewey head coach Lance Knight has seen Thornton’s scoring range increase this season.

The Doggers are 3-2 in the last three seasons against Nowata. The Ironmen are looking to beat Dewey twice in a season for the first time since 2014-15. Radio coverage of Northeast Oklahoma Bedlam Basketball Edition can be heard on KRIG 104.9 FM.
