High school basketball returned on Friday night and it was Nowata who took care of the Panthers in Barnsdall last night, 75-53. The Ironmen clinched the season sweep with a nearly identical win to the one they put together just before winter break. Nowata (7-1) has now won five straight games, while the Panthers (2-4) drop their third straight.

The Panthers trailed from the early minutes in this one. Barnsdall was able to keep it close in the first half thanks to buckets like this one from Michael Marin.

Nowata put together a three-point barrage in the first. In fact, the eight combined three-pointers made from Mark Price and Gabe Velasco were the only field goals made by the team. Nowata led it 31-26 at the break. It took the Ironmen until the three-minute mark in third quarter to hit a two-point field goal. Although that wasn’t a problem for Nowata as it went on a 17-2 run in third quarter to blow the game wide open.

Velasco notched the best game of his career with 21 points on seven three-pointers. Here are a couple of the top plays from the junior guard.

Price finished with 32 points and eight made three’s. The star junior eclipsed 30 points in both games against the Panthers in the season sweep. As a team Nowata made 16 three’s and two field goals from the inside the arc.

Both Nowata and Barnsdall will begin tournament play next week.
