Indians Drop First Two of Summer

The Doenges Ford Indians lost their first two games of the season on Tuesday night, in two games played at Coweta High School.

The Indians had their six-game winning streak to begin the year snapped, as they lost to Fort Smith, Arkansas 5-3 and Three Rivers 2-0.

In game one – a good start from Corey Murphy propelled Bartlesville to an early lead, but the Indians couldn’t quite hold. Murphy would give up a big two-out bases clearing triple in the top of the sixth that gave Fort Smith a two-run lead and the eventual victory.

In game two - the bats never got going for Bartlesville. Nolan Schaper pitched six innings and gave up just two runs, but the Indians managed only four hits and zero runs. Dustin Weisenbach had two of the four hits for the Indians.

Bartlesville drops to 6-2. The Indians are off on Wednesday as they travel to Central Missouri for their annual tournament in the Branson – Springfield area.

Speaking of summer baseball, the United Linen Braves begin their season on Wednesday night with a double-header at home against Ponca City.

It is a 6:00 and 8:00 PM first pitch from Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium.

KWON will have coverage of that twin bill on AM 1400 and FM 93.3.

The Braves are the Indian’s Triple-A team for Bartlesville’s Legion baseball program.
