High School Officiating - Changes and Needs

There will be a pretty major change to the way the high school football games are ran this fall.

The OSSAA has elected to run 40-second play clocks instead of 25 seconds, like was used previously.

The 15-second difference probably sounds like more than it is, as the play clock will now start immediately at the end of the previous play, rather than when the ball is set. This is the same rule the NCAA has employed for many years. President of the Bartlesville Officials Association Kevin Lynch helps explain the difference.

The overall goal with the rule change is to present consistency in the face of hurry-up offenses, which are becoming more of the norm even in high school football.

Area organizations are still looking for officials for the fall of 2019. Officiating provides a chance to make extra money while working in a sports setting and staying in shape.

We will have more on that opportunity later this week, Lynch urges people to call him if they are interested in becoming an official – his phone number is 918-214-3700.

The OSSAA.com website also has an officials tab that can be of help
