Eagles' Men Roll to Victory; Lady Eagles Take Tough Loss

The Eagle men’s team scored its biggest victory of conference play while the Lady eagles squandered a double-digit lead as Oklahoma Wesleyan’s basketball teams split a doubleheader against McPherson on Wednesday night.

The OKWU women’s team let a 17-point lead slip away in a 68-61 loss. The Lady Eagles were up 34-17 in the second quarter and then 46-31 in the third quarter before McPherson stormed back. The Lady Bulldogs claimed the lead late in the third quarter. However, the Lady Eagles took the lead right back on this Brittan Garrett triple.

Garrett knocked down a trio from the beyond the arc. Danae Goodwin led the team with 17 points. OKWU would falter down the stretch for a tough loss. The Lady Eagles fall to 13-11 overall and 9-10 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The second game saw the No. 16 Eagles blowout a McPherson team that trailed them by a half-game in the conference standings entering the night. Final score, 92-53.

OKWU put on the rout from the beginning. It was a 10-7 lead with 12 minutes to go in the first half when the Eagles raced out on a 17-0- run. The lead was 45-22 at halftime. The Eagles shot the lights out from distance at 15-30 for the game. Junior Lense Ramey knocked down five of them, including this one that built the Wesleyan lead.

The Eagles are 19-6 overall and 14-5 in KCAC play. Both team are next in action with a doubleheader at Friends University in Wichita on Saturday.
