The Oklahoma Wesleyan men’s earned a gritty victory in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament, knocking off Bethel Indiana, 83-75 in overtime.

The Eagles saw a double-figure lead in the first half slowly evaporate as the Pilots fought their way back. Bethel would take a four-point lead with two minutes remaining in the ball game. OKWU had to put in extra effort to force overtime. This bucket from Josh Wilchcombe extended the game.

The Eagles would storm out to a ten-point lead to start the extra period and would cruise to the victory from there. Jake Feickert showed why is he considered one of the top outside shooters in the country he converted a trio of three’s in the first half and he would add another pair in the second. Feickert finished with a career-high 24 points to lead the Eagles in scoring.

Josh Wilchcombe was an instrumental part of the offense as well. He finished with 21 points and also added 12 rebounds.

OKWU shot 37% as a team but a wide margin in rebounding was a key factor in the victory.

The Eagles will now take on the tournament’s top seed IU East at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.
