The Dewey Bulldoggers won their first game of the season on Thursday afternoon—a 47-36 win over Oologah’s JV team. The Mustangs were forced to fill the tournament spot of Cascia Hall who was forced to drop out minutes before the opening tipoff.

Dewey started off slowly in the contest as Oologah kept it close at 14-13 after one quarter. The Doggers played a strong second quarter—outscoring the opponent 14-2. Jake LaSpisa scored eight of his team-high 17 points in the second period. LaSpisa found his rhythm from beyond the arc.

Dewey led 28-15 at halftime. The Doggers would stretch the lead to over 20 in the second half. Oologah JV would go a late run to make the final score look closer than it actually was. Dewey head coach Lance Knight was happy to see LaSpisa lead a good offensive effort.

Dewey’s tournament fate is not clear at this point. The Doggers could potentially slot in to the semifinals (Friday, 8:30 p.m.) of the Oologah tournament after the win. Although due to the nature of the victory they could play in the consolation bracket (Friday, 2:30 p.m.) as well.
