Doenges Stadium to Open for Glen Winget Tournament

The Glen Winget Memorial Tournament will be played at the newly renovated Rigdon Field at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium this summer. Indians manager John Pannell confirmed after a discussion with Bartlesville Public Schools administration. Pannell says the people of Bartlesville should be excited to see baseball downtown again.

As of July 1, the Indians will be permitted to use the stadium. The Winget tournament runs from July 2-5. Bartlesville does not have any home games on its summer baseball schedule between now and then. Pannell says the road-heavy schedule is partially because the stadium situation was up in the air at the start of the season.

Last week’s news that the OSSAA suspended its Fourth of July dead period cleared one road block for the annual tournament to be played at Doenges. Monday’s news now confirms that it will happen. Right now, seven of the eight teams slated to play in the tournament have confirmed their spot.

The Indians played their first eight home games at the Oklahoma Wesleyan practice field. Pannell says he’s grateful that the facility was available but he’s ready to get back to the Indians’ home stadium.

The Indians are 6-8 so far this summer. Bartlesville will next play at Enid on Wednesday as a part of the AABC Red River Regional Qualifier tournament.
