A defensive struggle saw Dewey top a shorthanded Nowata team, 46-31, in a Tuesday night rivalry battle. The Doggers moved to 5-13 on the season with the victory.

It was a back-and-forth contest in the early goings with both teams trading buckets in the first period. The Doggers held a 14-12 lead after one. Dewey’s defense would kick into gear from there. The Doggers limited Nowata to five points and just one field goal in the second quarter. Dewey’s halftime lead was 25-17.

Colby Henley was a menace on the glass in this game. 10 of his 13 rebounds came in the first half. Henley used his first bucket of the second half to notch a double-double. Henley finished with a team-high 14 points.

Nowata fought back in a low-scoring third quarter. The Ironmen reduced the lead to four points late in third quarter, 27-23. However, the Doggers offense went on a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter. This late bucket from Kaleb Hull helped Dewey put the victory away.

Nowata could not catch up the rest of the way. The Ironmen drop to 13-5 on the year. Dillon Barnes had a team-high 13 points.

Dewey hosts Adair on Friday in its next action. While the Ironmen will play Chelsea on the road this Friday.
