Dewey Comes Up Short in Semifinals

Oologah 52, Dewey 35

The Dewey Bulldoggers came up short in a good battle against Oologah on Friday night, 52-35. The final score did not represent the level of competition in the game. Dewey played scrappy defense but couldn’t make enough shots in the Oologah tournament semifinals.

The Doggers came out strong in the first quarter and led 14-9 early on. Dewey allowed just three field goals in the opening period. Dewey’s offense showed potency from beyond the arc as well. Jake LaSpisa and Corbin Buford combined for five makes from the outside in the first half. This one from Buford stretched the Dewey lead.

The Mustangs would turn around a bit later in the second quarter after the Dewey offense went cold. Oologah would lead 25-21 at the break.

Dewey would hit two three-pointers early in the third quarter to tie the game at 27. Oologah would call timeout and make a defensive adjustments that flipped the game on its head. The Mustangs would close the game on a 25-8 run over the final 14 minutes to earn a trip to the finals.

LaSpisa finished with 13 points and Buford scored 11 points. The Doggers will play 5A No. 18 Pryor in the third place game on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. from Oologah High School.
