Dewey Basketball Splits Opener With Sperry

The Dewey Bulldoggers started off the 2017-2018 basketball season with a split in a doubleheader against Sperry.

The Lady Doggers got a 45-35 victory in the first game of the day. Dewey played stifling defense in the first half holding the Lady Pirates to just 8 points. Sperry showed better offense in the second half but the Lady Doggers were able to keep a steady lead throughout the contest.

The boys’ team was deadlocked in a back and forth battle with the Pirates early in the game. Dewey led for a majority of the opening half but squandered the lead late in the second quarter and they went to halftime trailing 35-30.

Sperry came out of the locker room energized and it showed. The Pirates outscored Dewey 27-13 in the third quarter to take a commanding lead. Caston Frye led all Dewey scorers with 13 points including this three-ball in the attempted comeback.

The Pirates wouldn’t look though back as they got the opening night win, 79-58.

Dewey will be back in action on Friday for a rivalry game with Nowata. You can hear that one on KRIG 104.9 FM. Tipoff at 8 o’clock.
