Northeast Oklahoma’s most accomplished basketball team has to be the fifth-ranked Oklahoma Union Cougars. OKU is fresh off its second consecutive Caney Valley Tournament championship. The Cougars will return to Ramona on Friday night for an area battle with the Trojans.

OKU has won 12 straight games and holds an 18-1 overall record with three games remaining in the regular season. Cougars head coach Lee Ott thinks his team could stack up with the best in class 2A.

Caney Valley has hovered above .500 for a bulk of the season. The Trojans are on the heels of a fourth place finish in their own tournament last week. Caney Valley lost a nail-biter to Liberty in the third place game, 48-46. Postseason preparations are underway for the Trojans who have seen some positive and some negative in the second part of the season. Head coach Tug Brinker says the team’s ability to play in the paint has been beneficial.

OKU won the first matchup on January 8, 74-20. Tipoff from Holly Ward Gymnasium in Ramona is set for 7:50 p.m.
