After a meltdown loss to Nowata on Saturday, Oklahoma Union baseball recovered nicely with a district sweep of their in-county rival on Monday and Tuesday. The Cougars won 4-2 in Nowata on Monday and 9-6 at home on Tuesday.

Starting pitching set the tone for OKU in both games. Mason Seigel pitched into the seventh inning to earn the win on Monday for the Cougars. Bryce Gillespie turned in a solid performance in game two with four shutout innings. Gillespie has gone ten straight innings without a surrendering a run.

OKU has won six of its last seven contests. The Cougars got a late start to baseball after a state title run in basketball. Head coach Lee Ott says the team is in a familiar situation.

The Cougars are currently 10-7 on the season. OKU sits in fourth place in 2A district 2 behind the likes of Caney Valley, Morrison and Dale. OKU takes the field next at Vinita on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
