Cougars Put District Win Streak on the Line

The Oklahoma Union Cougars are ready for the start of district play with a matchup at Afton. With the help of some cancellations last year the Cougars went a perfect 5-0 in Class A-5 district play. OKU hasn’t lost a district game since October 2019—a streak of game eight games that includes two victories over Afton.

Oklahoma Union beat up on Afton 53-6 last season. Cougars head coach Stephen Trammell thinks it could be a more competitive matchup this season.

At 1-2, not everything has gone the Cougars way so far. OKU is battling injuries especially up front. The Cougars do have some depth at the line spots but a lack of consistency has made blocking difficult at times. Trammell says he’s encouraged by the resolve of his team on longer drives.

New quarterback Jayden St. John has yet to turn the ball over in three starts. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday in Afton.
