It wasn't a good night for the Nowata Ironmen and Lady Ironmen basketball teams Friday night as Chouteau spoiled Homecoming games.  Wildcats beat the Ironmen 56-53 while the Ladycats won 56-50.

The Lady Ironmen didn't have the lead at all as Chouteau dominated the game.  Lady Ironmen trailed 39-26 at halftime and made a comeback attempt.  Nowata cut Chouteau's lead to 10 going in the fourth period 50-40 and outscored the Ladycats 10-6, but it wasn't enough.  Kennedy Downing came off the bench and led Nowata with 16 points, 13 of those points were in the first half.  With the loss, the Lady Ironmen are now 9-8 overall this season.

The Ironmen began the first minute and 10 seconds in the game on an 8-0 run and looked like early that Nowata would stun the seventh ranked Wildcats in Class 2A.  Chouteau would find a way to come back.  Nowata led 29-28 at halftime and Chouteau came back and took a 46-42 lead going into the fourth period.  Nowata had a chance to tie the game with about three seconds to go, but Michael Velasco's three-pointer was short.  Most of the fans saw there was contact, but no foul was called and Chouteau survived.  Zen Callahan had the hot shooting hand, made eight 3-pointers and finished with a game high 27 points.  The loss drops Nowata's record to 8-9 overall this season.

Next up for the Ironmen and the Lady Ironmen will be this Tuesday evening as Dewey comes to town.  Girls play at 6:30 while the boys play at 8 o'clock.
