Caney Valley Faces a Challenge at Beggs

It’s been a topsy-turvy season for the Caney Valley Trojans thus far. Stephen Mitchell’s gang has shown signs of the top-level play that earned them a playoff berth last season, but have looked lackluster at times as well.

The Trojans opened up district play with a 40-8 loss to a previous winless Kiefer team. Caney Valley now sits at 2-2 on the season with a challenging portion of the schedule coming up. The Trojans will play Beggs this Friday, a team with some local connections.

Current Bartlesville head coach Lee Blankenship led the Golden Demons to the 3A state championship game last season. Blankenship is now at BHS and Beggs is now in 2A, but a mass of talent still remains on the roster.

Despite the struggles last week, coach Mitchell remains confident in his defensive unit going against a tough opponent.

The lone loss for the Golden Demons came against Shiloh Christian from Springdale, Arkansas. However, other than that Beggs has gone undefeated with a win over Morris, 34-0, to start off district play.

The Trojans will head south down Highway 75 for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Beggs on Friday.
