Bruins Suffer Tough Loss to Collinsville

It has only been two games of non-district play, but it feels like the Bruins have seen it all.

Bartlesville High suffered a tough defeat at home on Friday night, as Collinsville stole one at Custer Stadium. The Cardinals topped the Bruins 20-17 in overtime.

A pick-six with just over two minutes to play gave Collinsville life, after the Cardinal offense was stymied the entire evening thanks to a tremendous display of effort from the defensive side of the ball for Bartlesville.

Leading 14-7 Bartlesville probably needed just one more first down to put the game on ice, but the Cardinals linebacker Brayden Gilkey picked off a screen pass 55 yards to the end zone to tie the game at 14.

Bartlesville had a couple decent chances to score before the end of regulation, but the turnover bug bit the Bruins in Week No. 2. BHS had three fumbles and two interceptions on the night.

In overtime Bartlesville failed to score a touchdown on its first possession. Following a 23-yard Dylan McCoy field goal, Collinsville won it on the next possession on a third down and goal touchdown run from the seven yard line.

Bartlesville did get on the board twice offensively in the first half to build its first lead of the game. The second touchdown was the first score of the season for Laken Clowdus.

The Bruins are 0-2 to begin 2019, they will next have a tough one at a top-five team in 6A-II in Del City next week for their first road game of the year.
