Bruins Still Rolling - Eight Straight Wins

Bartlesville High baseball won its eighth game in a row in dramatic fashion on Friday afternoon, as the streaking Bruins have continued their winning ways into the Bruin Classic.

BHS scored seven runs over the course of the last two innings to steal a victory over Willard, Missouri in game two of its own tournament.

Bartlesville walked off with the victory in the bottom of the seventh, 9-8.

Three base hits and two free passes led to Bartlesville scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth, which got the Bruins within one at 8-7 Willard.

Then in the bottom of the seventh, back-to-back hits from Andrew Harden and Calvin Johnson tied the game at eight. It was a KWON Intern's triple that scored Harden from first base. After Willard intentionally walked the bases loaded, Harald Borg looped a single down the right field line to win it, and the win streak stayed intact.

The Bruins did not help themselves early in the 8-2 deficit. Bartlesville committed four errors that led to four unearned Willard runs. Bryce Weathers started the game on the mound, but it was Alan Covarrubias with two scoreless innings down the stretch that proved to be the difference. Covarrubias picked up his first career win. He allowed just one hit over his two frames. Covarrubias walked one and struck out one.

Bartlesville improves to 9-7 on the season with the victory. It is the first time the Bruins have been two games over .500 this year.

Because of the late start due to rain on Friday, the Bruin Classic canceled the final game of the day between Bartlesville and Bentonville, Arkansas, as it would not have started until about 11:00 PM.

Bartlesville will wrap up play in its own tournament against Newcastle at 10:00 AM on Saturday.
