Bruins Ready For Playoffs

Bartlesville's journey to the 6A State Championship starts on Monday night, after the Bruin's game that was scheduled for Friday night was rescheduled because of snow.

BHS will take on Putnam City in Broken Arrow for the first round of regional action. If Bartlesville loses, the season is over, if it wins, BHS will play the winner of Broken Arrow-Enid at 7:00 PM on Tuesday evening. The Bruins have some history with the Pirates. Bartlesville fell to Putnam City, 66-58 on Dec. 4. That was the first game of the season for BHS in the Bixby Invitational Tournament.

Bartlesville ended the regular season on a two-game winning streak, beating Sand Springs and Bixby. BHS head coach Clent Stewart says those wins give the team a bit more confidence going into the sudden-death matchup.

Putnam City is the 7-seed on the eastern half of the state. The Pirates compiled a 17-7 record in the regular season, including that win over Bartlesville. Stewart says both teams are a bit different now than they were nearly three months ago. The PC guards gave the Bruins fits in the first game between the two schools. Grayson Wright, a 6'1'' junior, led the Pirates with 17 points.

Stewart says the Bartlesville team is aware of the importance of the first-round game. It is the only round of the 6A playoffs that is single-elimination. Despite that fact, Stewart wants the team to play loose

Offense has still been the major problem for Bartlesville. The Bruins have only scored 60 points or more in one of their last six games. Stewart says he thinks the team has done a better job in its last two games, but there is still work to do. Forcing the ball down low, either by getting it to Barron Tanner, or driving the ball to the hoop, will open up outside shooting.

The game tips off at 6:30, pregame at 6:15, you can listen to it on KWON 1400 AM, 93.3 FM.
