Bruins Go With Former Ada Coach to Replace Rigdon

For the first time in nearly two decades there will be a new face guiding the Bruins at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium.

Bartlesville High has hired former Ada High head baseball coach Austin Jarvis to lead the Bruins program. Jarvis takes over for longtime Bartlesville head coach Spence Rigdon, who has stepped down to take an Athletic Director job at Collinsville.

Jarvis announced his resignation from Ada earlier in May after just one season with the school. Jarvis was reportedly getting anonymous letters from parents criticizing him personally. Ada City Schools announced their support for Jarvis amid the controversy.

Bartlesville Athletic Director Ryan Huff says Jarvis loves his players, and is the right fit for the Bruins.

Ada was much improved in 2018. The Cougars went 23-14 in 2018 before losing in the regional round of the 4A playoffs. Jarvis had gone to Ada from Victory Christian. It was an Ada program that won only 14 games in 2016-2017 combined.

Jarvis was no stranger to success in his three seasons at Victory Christian either. He won nearly 80 games during his tenure.

The Bruins went 11-18 this past season under Rigdon, it was a senior-heavy group, but BHS has several returning players back for 2019.

Jakob Hall, Calvin Johnson, Noah Yearout, Andrew Harden, Harold Borg, Braden Winters and others all played significant innings for the Bruins this past spring and will return for the upcoming season under Jarvis.

Jarvis has some history with Bartlesville, as well. He was a baseball player for Oklahoma Wesleyan for one season and also got his masters at OKWU.
