Bartlesville High plays its first district game a day earlier than most.

The Bruins travel to Booker T. Washington to take on the defending 6A-II state champions on Thursday night.

Both Bartlesville and Booker T. are 1-2 on the year. The Hornets did not play this past week, meanwhile Bartlesville fell at home to Del City 33-7.

The Bruins started Ben Winters at quarterback for the first time last week, and he had some success in his first start. Bartlesville head football coach Lee Blankenship says Winters, and others, should continue to improve as the season goes on.

Booker T. has lost both its games outside of the state of Oklahoma. The Hornets return about half their starters from last year’s state title team. They also have four or five guys with high NCAA D-I offers. As usual, Blankenship says his team’s focus has been internal, as it gets set for its biggest test of the season.
