Both Oklahoma Union basketball teams will face ranked foes from higher classifications in the Oologah Tournament Semifinals on Friday. The Cougars beat Rejoice Christian 51-43 in round one and the Lady Cougars topped the host team 59-51.

The OKU boys will face their biggest challenge to this point with a matchup with 5A No. 18 Pryor at 5:30 p.m. The Cougars are 8-0 so far this season and are ranked No. 4 in Class 2A. Last year, the Cougars had a similar roster and went 7-1 against higher classification teams. That included a 53-point win over McAlester—the only 5A team on the Cougars schedule. Head coach Lee Ott wants to see his team rise to the occasion on Friday.

The Lady Cougars are ranked No. 11 and are 6-2 on the season. They square off with 4A No. 14 Cleveland at 7 p.m. The OKU girls have already notched a win against 4A Mannford this season.

Both teams are looking for their second tournament championships on the season after sweeping Nowata’s Ty Hewitt Memorial Tournament in December.
