Bond Issue Includes Turf at Doenges

We continue our look at the Bartlesville Public Schools bond issue, as BPS made the official announcement of what was in the bond last week.

A few of the items will effect athletics for Bartlesville High and the community.

One of the main upgrades that will draw eyes is turf at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium.

Doenges has always had a natural grass playing surface, but with a faster turnaround for games in tournaments, and the overall low maintenance of a turf field, most high schools and colleges across the state have been going that route. Doenges is in a more unique position, as well, because of the number of teams in the community that utilize the stadium. Bartlesville High Athletic and Activities Director Spence Rigdon talks about the possible new turf downtown.

The addition of turf could also aid in having little league games at the stadium. Rigdon said easier placement of the bases at different lengths could open up opportunities for the Bartlesville Area Amatuer Baseball city championship to be held at Doenges.

Also the thought that colleges in the region could use Doenges as a neutral field for games in the summer and spring could come to fruition easier with turf.

The bond issue will come to a vote in August, it is a continuation of the bond from a couple of years ago. We have a lot of coverage on the news side of the bond available online as well at BartlesvilleRadio.com.
