BHS Swimming - Celebrating Champs

Bartlesville High school continues to celebrate the fifth straight state title from the Lady Bruin swim squad this week.

The BHS girls edged out Jenks in the 6A State Tournament on Saturday in Edmond. Bartlesville had faced Jenks four times throughout the regular season, with Jenks winning each of the previous meetings by slim margins before Bartlesville got the best of the Lady Trojans when it mattered.

June Harris and Erin Downey, both future NCAA D-1 swimmers led the way. Bartlesville head swim coach Chad Englehart says that their experience of winning the last four state titles helped motivate them this time around.

Bartlesville graduates those two superstars on the girl’s side, but does bring up a stellar group of underclassmen, and Sydney Perry will become a senior leader. Englehart says there are not many reinforcements on the way, so this new group will have to improve over the offseason if the Lady Bruins want a shot at six straight state titles.

The Bruin guys swim team also finished at third place at the state meet. Englehart said that is the eighth year in a row that program has reached the podium.
