The Bartlesville boy’s and girl’s basketball teams had one of their best nights on the season on Tuesday in Tulsa.

BHS swept Bishop Kelley in a Frontier Valley Conference double-header. The Lady Bruins beat Bishop Kelley 52-22, while the Bruin boys topped the Comets 64-57.

The Bartlesville girls (7-5) led from the outset. BHS looked sharp on defense, not allowing a point until there was less than 4 minutes remaining in the game. Bishop Kelley had only nine points at halftime and Bartlesville would cruise in the second half.

The Lady Bruin lead nearly touched 40 a new times until Krista Binam called off the dogs in the fourth quarter. Jena’ Williams led Bartlesville with 21 points. Williams scored on several impressive transition sequences in the second half to add to her point total.

Round two of the Fort Gibson Tournament is up next for the Lady Bruins. BHS will play Broken Bow at 4:30 in the semifinals.

On the boy’s side things were a bit closer, but never in doubt. An early scoring streak from Matt Simpson gave Bartlesville a 16-8 led and the Bruins would lead by at least four the rest of the way.

The Bruins led by 12 before a last-second Comet three-pointer before halftime cut the BHS lead to nine. The Bruins lead was cut to four before a Barron Tanner jumper at the end of the third quarter gave Bartlesville some momentum going into the fourth.

Tanner scored 28 points unofficially. AJ Archambo added in nine. The Bruins took care of the ball and made enough free throws in the final three minutes to make sure the game was never within one possession.

The Bartlesville boys will face the Wichita Defenders at 6:15 on Thursday in round one of the Coffeyville Interstate Classic. That game can be heard on KWON – AM 1400 and FM 93.3.
