BHS Hoops Get Union at Bruin Fieldhouse

Both Bartlesville High basketball teams will start to ramp things up for the homestretch this week - with a more regular schedule of games going forward.

The Lady Bruins and Bruins have about three weeks left in the regular season. Union visits Bruin Fieldhouse for a Frontier Valley Conference double-header on Tuesday night.

The girls game looms large. The Lady Bruins (13-2) have surged to No. 6 in Class 6A, while Union has fallen to No. 12. in the latest OSSAARankings that came out on Monday - the Lady Bruins also got one first-place vote in the poll.

A win on Tuesday would go a long way toward BHS hosting a regional. Bartlesville is riding a 10-game win streak. During that span the Lady Bruins have averaged about 62 points per game. Head coach Donnie Martin says the offense has been greatly affected by secondary scorers stepping up.

The Union girls are trending in the opposite direction, as the Lady Redskins (12-4) have lost three of their last six.

On the guy’s side Bartlesville has had a different problem, as offensive inconsistency continues to plaque the Bruins.

BHS has usually had one quarter of bad shooting that digs the club a hole. For example, Bartlesville scored just two points in the first quarter in its last game against Broken Arrow, before outscoring the Tigers in the second and third quarters to claw back into the game.

After playing 11 games in 16 days to begin the second semester, BHS has been off for the past six days. Bruin head coach Clent Stewart says this past week off should be helpful to his club.

Union (10-6) has won five of its last seven on the guy' side. Once again the ladies tip at 6:30 with the guys at 8:00 tonight. Both those games can be heard on KWON – AM 1400 and FM 93.3. You can stream it online at BartlesvilleRadio.com and to your mobile device on the Bartlesville Radio App.
