Bethany College Sweeps OKWU

Saturday evening was tough for Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles and Lady Eagles basketball teams at Lindsborg, Kansas.  Playing on the road, especially during the KCAC season has been difficult for both OKWU squads.   Lady Eagles 8-game winning streak was snapped by Bethany College 83-79 while the Eagles 3-game winning streak came to an end as the Swedes won 97-89.

The Lady Eagles didn't play well and it showed on the court.  OKWU battled throughout the game, but couldn't get the win.  OKWU led 41-35 at halftime, but Bethany College outscored the Lady Eagles 48-38 in the second half to pick up the victory.  Lady Eagles shot 33 percent from the field and shot 27 percent from the 3-point line.  Bethany College shot 49 percent from the field and out rebounded OKWU 53-44.  Shelbie Kirby came off the bench and led OKWU with 15 points while Kayla Morgan added 13 points.  Courtney Robinson finished with 11 points while Cassidy McNespey added 10 points.  The Swedes had five players that scored in double figures.  Kimi Lindshield finished with a triple-double, 15 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists.  Paige Stewart led the Swedes with 19 points.  Bethany College were dominate in the paint outscoring the Lady Eagles 58-28.  The Lady Eagles drop to 16-9 overall and 10-5 in KCAC play.  

The Eagles put up a good fight against the Swedes and even led as many as seven points in the middle of the second half.  The experience of Bethany College showed down the stretch as they made key plays and handed the Eagles their 13th loss of the year.  The Swedes led 39-38 at halftime and outscored the Eagles 58-51 in the second half.  Despite the loss, the Eagles out rebounded Bethany College 57-43 and shot 41 percent from the field.  CJ Ross led the Eagles with 23 points while Breiman Alexander, his first game back in several weeks, finished with 15 points, all in the second half.  Mike Davis had his best game of the year finished with 15 points while Shaq Martin added eight points and 11 rebounds.  Jonathan Gidson led Bethany College with a game high 25 points, 21 coming in the second half.  OKWU's bench played well and outscored Bethany College's bench 44-17.  The loss drops OKWU to 11-13 overall and 6-9 in KCAC play.
