Bartlesville Sweeps Day 1 at COP-Arvest
Both the Bartlesville High basketball teams opened up the ConocoPhillips Arvest Invitational with solid wins on Thursday night at Bruin Field House.
Both BHS clubs move on to the semifinals of the event on Friday night.
On the girl’s side first, BHS got its second win of the year, it was a nip-and-tuck contest against Del City, and the Lady Bruins won 39-33.
Bartlesville still had some turnovers issues with 25 on the game, but made plays down the stretch to get the win. Elise Rovenstine took over in the final few minutes. Her first three-pointer of the season gave Bartlesville some breathing room, and this finish on an in-bound pass was the dagger.
Rovenstine and Kate Gronigan each had nine points to pace BHS. The Lady Bruins improve to 2-5.
On the guy’s side, Bartlesville overcame an early nine-point deficit to beat Stillwater, 60-51.
The Bruins led by only two in the final minute when the freshman David Castillo got the biggest basket of his seven-game varsity career.
Bartlesville would make its free throws to put the game away. Castillo led the Bruins with 22.
It was three three-pointers in consecutive possessions that turned the game in the fourth quarter for Bartlesville when trailing by three, as Aadhi Ayyapan made two and Jordan Carter one during 9-0 BHS run.
The Lady Bruins will face Choctaw in the semifinals at 7:00 , with the Bruin guys taking on Midwest City at 8:30 on Friday evening on KWON – AM 1400 and FM 93.3.
