Bartlesville High has shown it has quite a bit to offer when it comes to coaching positions at the varsity level.

BHS Athletic Director Ryan Huff and the BPS administration has had good results luring some of the best coaching talent in the state over the past year, and that has continued with the recent hiring of girl's basketball coach Donnie Martin.

BPS announced the hiring of Martin as the new leader of the Lady Bruins on Thursday.

Martin comes to Bartlesville with loads of experience, including head coaching duties at Pryor the past three seasons.

Martin said he had a tough time leaving Pryor, but ultimately felt like Bartlesville was a good place to serve as home for him and his family going forward. Martin talks about that decision.

Something that Martin, and new head baseball coach Austin Jarvis, were impressed with were the facilities in Bartlesville.

Bruin Fieldhouse continues to be one of the best high school basketball gymnasiums in the state, and it was something that Martin was taken with from the get-go. Martin talks about his impression of Bruin Fieldhouse.

Donnie Martin’s wife and high school-aged daughter will immediately join him on the varsity squad next year at BHS. His wife, Lori, serves as his assistant – he referred to her as a co-head coach. Meanwhile his daughter, Chloe, was one of the best guards in class 5A a year ago. She led Pryor in scoring. Pryor lost in the 5A State finals to Booker T. Washington in overtime in 2018.

Chloe will be a junior in 2018-2019 and will join Jena’ Williams, Trinity Parker and Avery Allen as probable starters in Martin’s first year at Bartlesville.
