The Lady Bruins have found their new skipper.

Bartlesville has hired Krista Binam as its varsity girl's basketball coach, as the BHS School Board approved the move on Monday night.

Binam says Bruin AD Tim Bart was one of the main reasons she chose Bartlesville.

Binam was the head coach at Bixby High School this past season. She had previous head coaching experience, as well. Binam was the head coach at Owasso before she left to be an assistant coach at Oral Roberts University.

Last year Bixby was 13-13 and finished at no. 20 in the state. The Lady Spartans split their two games with Bartlesville during 2014-15.

Binam played collegiately at ORU from 1996-2002. During her career she scored 2,152 points. She was a three-time Mid-Con Player of the year, and was a Kodak All-American. Binam graduated from Indianola High School. Indianola is south of Tulsa in eastern Oklahoma.

Binam met with the Lady Bruins on Monday. She talks about meeting the players and comments on former Bartlesville star Hailey Tucker.

Binam says she wants to adapt to the players she has at BHS. She says she likes aggressive man-to-man defense and to force the tempo offensively.

Binam is married to former ORU standout basketball player Nathan Binam. The couple has a three-year-old daugher named Lakyn.

BHS Athletic Director Tim Bart pointed out that Bartlesville likely has two of the more talented head coaches in the state in its boy's and girl's basketball programs.

Both Binam, and BHS boy's coach Clent Stewart, had long playing careers at division 1 universities. Stewart played at Kansas State.

Bart says that the athletic department, administration and community will support Binam to its fullest.

Binam stressed that she was looking for somewhere to settle down with her young family.

Bartlesville is that place.
