Bartlesville Football Back At It

Bartlesville is back on the gridiron for the next couple weeks.

The Bruins have been participating in spring practices since Monday, and will continue to practice until late May. There are many story lines for this year’s BHS football offseason, one of which involves a new coach. Bartlesville begins work with new offensive coordinator Andrew Rice this offseason.

Rice was the co-offensive coordinator at Sand Springs in 2014. He has been with BHS since March.

Bartlesville head coach John McKee talks about beginning spring practice.

BHS lost to Lawton in the first round of the 6A-II playoffs in 2014. The Bruins ended the year at 2014 at 5-6. McKee talks about last season’s effect on the returners.

Bartlesville had its three main offensive weapons back this season. Colton Penrod at quarterback, AJ Parker at wide receiver and Jarron Hilger at running back. Those three give Rice a lot of weapons

Rice says that he will emphasize running the football. Isaac Barham will anchor the Bartlesville offensive line, Rice wants to use his talents.

Rice also knows it isn’t a bad idea to keep the ball in the hands of Penrod.

Numbers wise, BHS is up. The Bruins had one of the smallest squads in 6A last season. McKee hopes that won’t be the case this season.

Bartlesville will be at Tulsa East Central to start the season on Sept. 4.

McKee talks about the returners.
