It was nearly a big upset for the Bartlesville baseball team at Bixby on Thursday.

The Bruin’s fell 8-4 on the Spartan’s senior night, despite an early lead and out-hitting their conference foe.

Bartlesville (11-20)  appeared to have the upper hand against Bixby through the first three innings. It stung Bixby starter Cade Cavalli for seven hits and four runs.

Three of the runs came in the third inning. A bloop single off the bat of Zac Boyes produced two. Bixby made an overthrow at second base as Boyes tried to advance. It scored AJ Archambo who had doubled earlier, and Boyes circled the bases to score after the three-base error. Archambo’s double with one out scored Logan McNeill who also hit a two-bagger the batter previous. Bartlesville led 4-2.

The Spartan bullpen would come in and slam the door on the Bruin’s the final four frames.

Bixby (27-7) benefited from timely hitting. Six of the Spartan’s eight runs came with two outs. Defensive miscues plagued Bartlesville in the bottom of the fourth. BHS had a one-run lead until three errors led to three unearned Bixby runs. Archambo took the loss on the mound despite pitching well. He allowed three earned runs, struck out four and gave up five hits in four innings of work.

The Bruin’s will wrap up the regular season at home against Sand Springs on Saturday morning at 10:00. First pitch at 5:30.

Bartlesville beat the Sandites 5-4 during their first meeting on April 19.
