Both the Bartlesville basketball teams have advanced to the winner’s bracket of the Carl Albert Titan Classic in Midwest City. Both will play in semifinal matchups on Friday evening with a chance to make the championship on Saturday.

The girl’s won first, beating Putnam City 50-39 behind 25 points from Hailey Tucker. Tucker scored 19 of those points in the first half behind six three-pointers. The game was never in doubt, despite a late run from the Lady Pirates.

Bartlesville (7-6) now plays host team Carl Albert at 5:30 on Friday night. The Lady Titans (9-5) are one of the best teams in 5A, ranked no. 5 in the state. They took care of Star Spencer on Thursday evening.

Meanwhile the BHS boys took care of business, as well.  Bartlesville topped Star Spencer 69-60. The Bruin’s cruised to an early double-digit lead in the 2nd quarter, but it wasn’t quite smooth sailing from there on out. The pressure defense from Star Spencer caused the Bruins problems, causing several BHS turnovers.

The Bartlesville lead ping-ponged between 15 and seven in the second half. Solid scoring efforts from Antonio Castillo and Barron Tanner for BHS in the 3rd quarter kept the Bobcats at bay. Tanner finished with 27 points, 20 of which came in the 2nd half. Castillo added 14.

The Bruins led 32-26 at halftime, but Star Spencer had a run left. The Bobcats tied the game at 36 early in the third quarter, but Bartlesville answered swiftly. BHS went on an eight-nothing run, and took a 15-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Star Spencer got as close as six in the final two minutes but free throws for Bartlesville put the game away.

Bartlesville built its lead thanks to an 11-0 run in the second quarter, helped in large part from three AJ Parker three-pointers during the period.

Bartlesville moves on to play the winner of Norman and Muskogee on Friday night at 8:30.

You can hear both those Bartlesville games, girls starting at 5:30, boys around 8:15, on KWON 1400 AM, 93.3 FM.
